 Where does the money that we raise for Start! Heart Walk go?

A: Each year millions of people participate in Heart Walks around the country. Each walker is asked to raise money from friends and family, coworkers, business acquaintances, association members, etc. The money that is raised each year will be used to fund the valuable research, education and advocacy efforts of the American Heart Association.

 

 Do I have to raise money to participate in the Start! Heart Walk?

A: No, however we rely upon valued Heart Walk participants and donors across the country to fund research and education programs like the Start! movement. Raising funds through the Start! Heart Walk is a great way to make a difference in the lives of others. 

 

 How can I participate in Start! Heart Walk if I am not with a team or company?

A: Anyone can participate in the Start! Heart Walk, whether you are walking alone, with a team or with your company. Just follow these steps to register.

  • Go to our registration site, and search for an event near you.
  • You will see a listing of Start! Heart Walks. Click on the event which interests you. A new page should pop up. If no listings appear, it means that there are no Heart Walks currently scheduled near you or that the Heart Walk has already taken place.
  • On this new page, you will see a button that says “Register Here.” Click on that button and accept the terms and conditions by clicking “I agree.”
  • At this point you will see the option to Join the Start! Heart Walk as an individual or start a team.

     Is there any special recognition for survivors of heart disease and stroke?

    A: Yes, survivors are given red ball caps to wear during the Heart Walk to show their triumph over heart disease or stroke and are invited onstage for the Red Cap Wave to kick off the Walk.
